Thousands of New Jersey commuters are facing significant travel disruptions Friday morning after an overnight fire involving an Amtrak work train at New York Penn Station.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Track 11 when an Amtrak maintenance train caught fire inside the station complex.
The blaze prompted a two-alarm response, leading emergency crews to suspend rail operations as firefighters worked to bring the situation under control.
According to NJ Transit officials, train service into and out of Penn Station has been severely impacted, creating major headaches for riders traveling to Manhattan during the morning rush.
Rail traffic was temporarily halted while officials assessed the scene and worked to determine which tracks could safely return to service.
NJ Transit warned customers to expect extensive delays, service adjustments, and possible cancellations as crews continue evaluating conditions at Penn Station.
Transit officials said they were still working to determine how many tracks would be available for normal operations Friday morning, leaving uncertainty for thousands of commuters heading into New York City.
The disruption is expected to significantly affect riders on several NJ Transit rail lines that rely on access to Penn Station, including the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, and Midtown Direct services.
Commuters should be prepared for crowded trains, longer travel times, and potential rerouting throughout the morning.
Emergency officials reported injuries associated with the overnight incident, although the severity and number of those injuries had not been fully disclosed as of early Friday.
Authorities remain on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
NJ Transit is urging customers to check the latest service advisories before traveling and to allow extra time for their commute.
This remains a developing story.
