Police in Newark are investigating the motive behind a shooting incident that occurred in the city’s South Ward Sunday evening.

Shortly before 7 p.m., a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in the 200 block of Renner Avenue, prompting officers to respond to the area to investigate.
When police arrived, they located evidence confirming that a shooting had occurred. However, after canvassing the neighborhood, officers did not find any victims.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Newark Police Division.
No arrests have been announced.
