Authorities in Essex County are investigating a shooting incident that left one person injured near the border of Newark and Irvington early Friday morning.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., police were notified of an injured person near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and 18th Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found an unidentified male suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment. As of 4:30 a.m., the extent of his injuries had not been confirmed.
Officials said both Newark and Irvington police have launched a joint investigation to determine exactly where the shooting occurred and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
