Authorities in Monmouth County are investigating a shooting that left an adult male injured Thursday afternoon in Freehold Borough.
According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, members of its Major Crimes Bureau, along with the Freehold Borough Police Department, are actively investigating the incident, which occurred on East Main Street between South and Center streets.
Officials said the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public.

Preliminary information indicates the gunfire erupted near the Freehold Public Library, startling residents who were inside studying and reading at the time.
Police were dispatched to the scene shortly before 4:30 p.m. after receiving reports of an injured person.
Upon arrival, officers located an unidentified male suffering from gunshot wounds to the face. The victim was transported to an area hospital, though his condition has not been released.
