UPDATE: Deadly Fire in Union City Leaves Residents Displaced

Authorities in Hudson County announced that the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force, North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, and the Union City Police Department are investigating a fatal fire that occurred on Saturday, April 18.

Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello stated that at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Union City Police Department was notified of a fire in the area of Bergen Turnpike and 38th Street.

Upon arrival, first responders located a fire involving 3808 through 3812 Bergen Turnpike, HCPO officials say.

During suppression activities, firefighters located a deceased individual, tentatively identified as a 74-year-old female, within a residence at 3808 Bergen Turnpike, according to Hudson County officials.

HCPO officials said that a total of 22 residents were displaced as a result of the fire.

This matter remains under investigation.
