Police are actively searching for a suspect following a late-night shooting that left one injured Friday night.

According to preliminary information, officers were alerted just before 11 p.m. after staff at Jersey City Medical Center reported that an unidentified walked into the emergency department suffering from gunshot wounds.
Responding officers interviewed the victim, who told police the shooting occurred in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and McAdoo Avenue.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether evidence at that location supports the claim, but units were observed canvassing the neighborhood for clues.
The victim’s injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening, and officials expect a recovery.
The motive behind the shooting remains under active investigation. As of early reports, no additional details about the suspect have been released.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Jersey City Police Department as the investigation continues.
