Authorities in Union Township are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that claimed the life of an 86-year-old woman Thursday afternoon.

According to the Union Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of Vauxhall Road and Oakland Avenue on March 26, 2026, following reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2012 white Chevrolet Express van, operated by a 49-year-old man from Hillside, was making a left turn from Vauxhall Road onto Oakland Avenue when the vehicle struck the elderly woman as she was crossing in a marked crosswalk.
The victim was transported to University Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Following the crash, police implemented an alternate traffic pattern, diverting vehicles from Oakland Avenue for approximately four hours as investigators processed the scene.
