Police in Toms River are investigating a shooting that left a 17-year-old injured outside the Ocean County Mall Wednesday night.

The violence took place at approximately 8:30 p.m. near 1201 Hooper Avenue, in the area of Applebee’s at the mall complex.
According to preliminary information, officers arriving at the scene found a 17-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.
The teen was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His injuries were reported to be serious.
Authorities said the suspect or suspects fled the area in a silver sedan headed toward Route 37.
A large police presence remained at the scene as Toms River officers, joined by several Ocean County law enforcement agencies, launched an active investigation.
Officials have not yet announced a motive, and no additional information was immediately available.
