Man Wounded in Newark South Ward Shooting

A man was injured in a shooting in Newark’s South Ward Thursday evening, prompting an active investigation by city police.

According to information released by Emanuel Miranda Sr., Public Safety Director for the Newark Department of Public Safety, officers were dispatched at approximately 5:32 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, to the 200 block of West Runyon Street after receiving reports of gunfire.

 

When responding officers arrived at the scene, they located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound that authorities described as non-life-threatening.

 

The injured man was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

 

Police also recovered a handgun at the scene and observed damage to nearby property caused by gunfire.
