Police in Paterson are searching for several armed suspects who reportedly rode through a neighborhood on scooters and fired multiple rounds Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the teens block of Mercer Street, according to preliminary information from authorities.
Residents reported hearing gunfire in the area, prompting a police response.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located multiple shell casings scattered along the street, confirming that shots had been fired.
Authorities canvassed the neighborhood and conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area but did not locate any victims.
During the investigation, officers also discovered a parked vehicle that had been struck by gunfire, though no one was inside the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
Witnesses told police that three to four suspects fled the scene on scooters immediately after the gunfire, quickly leaving the area before officers arrived.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
The investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives work to identify and locate the suspects.
