Authorities in Union County are investigating a violent shooting that left one person severely injured in Elizabeth late Sunday night.
Police were dispatched to the area of 501 Magnolia Avenue at approximately 10:10 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire in the neighborhood.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim was reportedly unconscious and in critical condition when emergency responders found him.
He was rushed to an area hospital for treatment, though officials have not immediately confirmed the extent of his injuries.
Police secured the scene shortly after the incident, taping off the area as detectives began searching for shell casings and other potential evidence.
Investigators are also working to determine whether any suspects fled the area following the shooting.
The motive behind the violence remains unclear, and the incident is currently under active investigation by Union County authorities.
