A 19-year-old Essex County man has been charged in connection with a violent home invasion that occurred in Tenafly in 2023, according to a statement released by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.

Authorities said the suspect was 17 years old at the time of the offense.
The charges stem from a joint investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer and the Tenafly Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert Chamberlain.
Police responded around 7:30 p.m. on April 30, 2023, to a reported home invasion and vehicle theft at a private residence on Mahan Street.
The victim told officers that a masked intruder entered the home, attacked him with a knife, and stole a vehicle parked outside the residence.
The victim sustained a significant head contusion and a laceration to the nose during the assault.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad joined Tenafly police at the scene and launched a joint investigation.
Detectives collected and analyzed evidence recovered from the residence, including trace materials that ultimately helped identify the suspect.
Following what authorities described as a years-long investigation, detectives determined that the masked intruder was a juvenile at the time of the incident.

On February 3, 2026, the suspect — who was already being held at the Bergen County Jail on unrelated charges — was served with complaints of juvenile delinquency, including:
• Second-degree robbery
• Second-degree armed burglary
• Third-degree theft of movable property
• Fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon
The case remains pending in Bergen County Superior Court.
