Third Victim Shot in Less Than 12 Hours Leaves Man Critically Injured in Newark

An active investigation is underway following a shooting that left one person critically injured Wednesday evening in Newark, authorities said.

 

According to preliminary information, several rounds of gunfire were reported just before 7:10 p.m. in the area of Bergen Street and Avon Avenue. 

The reports prompted a large police response to the scene.

 

When officers arrived, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. 

The victim was transported to University Hospital, where his condition was reported as critical.

 

Detectives canvassed the area for additional victims, but no other injuries were immediately reported. 

Officials said nearby hospitals were also being checked for possible walk-in gunshot victims.

 

The shooting marks the third reported gunfire victim in Newark within a 12-hour period. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and no arrests have been announced at this time.
