Two people were injured by gunfire following a shooting in the Central Ward of Newark late Tuesday morning, authorities said.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred just before 10:15 a.m. in the area of Court Street and Irvine Turner Boulevard.
Police were alerted after ShotSpotter technology detected multiple rounds fired from what was described as a high-caliber weapon.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
That individual was transported to an area hospital for treatment. While detectives were processing the scene, police were notified by University Hospital that a second person had arrived at the emergency room with gunshot injuries related to the same incident.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including a possible motive, remain under an active and ongoing investigation. 
No arrests have been reported at this time.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact police as the investigation continues.
