Authorities in Bergen County announced the arrest of 41-year-old Michael W. Smith, of Westfield, on charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual contact.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella stated that the arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Rochelle Park Police Department, under the direction of Chief Dean Pinto.
According to Bergen County officials, on Sunday, January 18, the Rochelle Park Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged sexual assault.
BCPO officials said that an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Rochelle Park Police Department revealed that Michael W. Smith sexually assaulted an adult victim in Rochelle Park.
As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, January 29, Michael W. Smith was arrested in Westfield and charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, BCPO officials said. 
Bergen County officials say Smith was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
