According to officials from the Jersey City Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the 300 block of Palisade Avenue after receiving reports of a fire inside the building during the early morning hours.

When firefighters arrived on scene, heavy fire conditions were observed coming from the upper floors of the structure.

A second alarm, followed by a third alarm, was quickly struck to bring in additional manpower after flames were confirmed on the fourth floor and fire was found spreading between floors.

Firefighters stretched multiple hose lines to knock down the main body of fire before advancing inside the building to conduct searches for any trapped or injured occupants.

Officials confirmed that no civilians were injured in the incident.

One firefighter, however, sustained a non-life-threatening back injury and was treated.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control, though suppression efforts were complicated by flames extending into the cockloft and concealed spaces within the walls between floors.

Firefighters worked for an extended period to fully extinguish the hidden fire and prevent further spread.

The cause of the fire remains under active and ongoing investigation by authorities.
