Authorities in Bergen County announced the arrest of 29-year-old Jhamir E. Brown, of Passaic, on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapon offenses in connection with a shooting incident in Elmwood Park.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella stated that, in addition, 24-year-old Darial P. Hunt, of Paterson, was arrested and charged with possession of hollow-point bullets. These charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Deputy Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Elmwood Park Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Foligno.
According to Bergen County officials, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at approximately 11:22 p.m., the Elmwood Park Police Department responded to a shooting that occurred on Donor Avenue. Upon arrival, responding officers located a 27-year-old male victim injured by gunfire.
The victim was transported by EMS to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, BCPO officials said. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit was notified, responded to the scene, and initiated a joint investigation with the Elmwood Park Police Department.
The investigation revealed that Jhamir E. Brown was responsible for the shooting on Donor Avenue, BCPO authorities say. On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Jhamir E. Brown was located and arrested without incident in Wayne by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, according to Bergen County officials.
As a result of the investigation, Bergen County officials stated, BROWN was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and fourth-degree certain persons not to possess firearms.
Bergen County officials say that Brown was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending further court action. During the course of locating Jhamir E. Brown, detectives discovered that Darial P. Hunt, of Paterson, an acquaintance of Brown, was in possession of 9mm hollow-point bullets.

Hunt was subsequently arrested and charged with fourth-degree possession of hollow-nose ammunition, BCPO officials said. Hunt was released pending further court action.
