Police Seek Woman for Questioning After Shooting Near White Castle in Newark

Authorities in Newark are seeking the public’s help as part of an ongoing shooting investigation, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., who announced that Shakinah Bloomfield, 35, of Newark, is wanted for questioning.

 

The incident occurred on January 17, 2026, at approximately 10:11 a.m., when the ShotSpotter detection system alerted police to gunfire in the area of Hawthorne Avenue near Elizabeth Avenue, close to the White Castle restaurant. 

Responding officers canvassed the area and recovered six shell casings at the scene.

Investigators say surveillance video captured the suspect exiting a white GMC sport utility vehicle while carrying a rifle-style firearm before walking toward Hawthorne Avenue.
