Authorities in Newark are investigating a violent shooting that left a man in critical condition Thursday night.
According to a statement from Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, police were notified at approximately 8:40 p.m. on January 1, 2026, after University Hospital reported that a gunshot victim had been driven there in a private vehicle.
Investigators said a concerned citizen transported the victim to the hospital after discovering him suffering from a gunshot wound in the area of Isabella Avenue and South Orange Avenue.
The victim is currently listed in critical condition.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation, and no additional details were immediately available.
