Gunmen Shoot Up Newark Central Ward Community

Newark police are searching for one or more suspects following a shooting incident that rattled a Central Ward neighborhood Saturday night.

Just before 9:20 p.m., a ShotSpotter device detected approximately 16 rounds of gunfire in the area of 85 Prince Street, prompting a swift response from multiple police units. 

Officers arriving at the scene secured the area and established a perimeter after locating numerous shell casings on the ground.

 

Despite an extensive search of the surrounding area, police did not locate any victims.

 

The Newark Police Shooting Response Team was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. 

Authorities say the suspect or suspects fled the area and remain at large. At this time, it is unclear who or what may have been targeted.

 

The investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
