UPDATE: Sisters Die Trying to Save Disabled Father in Thanksgiving Day Fire in Orange

What began as a quiet Thanksgiving evening in Orange turned tragic when a fire swept through a home on Mosswood Avenue, taking the lives of two sisters who were trying to save their disabled father.

The blaze erupted around 5:00 p.m. Thursday at 660 Mosswood Avenue, drawing firefighters and police to heavy flames inside the residence.


 Family members rushed to escape as smoke filled the home.
 

Authorities later identified the victims as Frantzia Fleury, 49, and her sister Pojanee Fleury, 42


Both were pronounced dead at the scene at about 6:47 p.m. Officials said the sisters were attempting to help their father to safety when they became trapped. 

The father and six other occupants managed to get out without injuries.

 

Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Orange Fire Chief Derrick Brown said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
