Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

UPDATE: 9:46 am UPDATE - This is a statewide email threat to all the polls. None of the polls in Newark have been closed.

Newark authorities are investigating the source of multiple phishing emails making false claims about bomb threats across the city, officials confirmed Monday.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, the Newark Department of Public Safety is actively working to identify the origin of the messages.

While the threats have been deemed hoaxes, police say they will continue to treat each one seriously and respond to every reported location to ensure public safety.

One such threat reported this morning at Gotthard Street was quickly investigated and confirmed to be unfounded.

Director Miranda urged residents and business owners to remain alert but avoid spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary alarm.

“The department will continue to investigate the source of these fraudulent emails,” officials said, adding that no further details were immediately available.
