NJ TRANSIT will operate extra rail service on Saturday, October 18, to help thousands of spectators travel to the 104th running of the Far Hills Race Meeting at Moorland Farms in Somerset County.
The Far Hills Station, located on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Lines, sits directly across the street from the event grounds.
According to information released by NJ TRANSIT, westbound trains will run from Summit to Far Hills between 8:14 a.m. and 1:14 p.m., with more frequent trips during the morning rush of racegoers.
Most of these trains will originate in Hoboken. Eastbound service from Far Hills back toward Summit and Hoboken will operate between 3:59 p.m. and 7:03 p.m.
At other times, Lakeland Bus Company will provide substitute service on the Gladstone Branch.
Shuttle buses will also move riders between Gladstone, Peapack, and Far Hills throughout the day.
Officials stressed that no beverages — alcoholic or otherwise — will be allowed on trains, buses, or station platforms serving the event. The restriction, NJ TRANSIT said, will be strictly enforced.
Riders are strongly encouraged to purchase round-trip tickets ahead of time. Anyone boarding at Far Hills without a ticket must buy a special $20 pass valid only on October 18. Ticket offices at Hoboken, Summit, and Dover will be open regular hours, with additional temporary ticket booths at Berkeley Heights, Bernardsville, Far Hills, and Gladstone.
Parking at Far Hills Station will be closed from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. to support event operations. NJ TRANSIT also reminded customers that bicycles will not be permitted on Gladstone Branch trains that day.
Travelers should check njtransit.com or use the NJ TRANSIT mobile app for complete schedules and updates.
