Bloomfield’s Growth Recognized With State Planning Award

Bloomfield

When news came that Bloomfield had earned the 2025 Achievement in Planning Award from New Jersey Planning Officials, I felt it captured more than a Master Plan, it reflected the spirit of a community where I once lived, currently shop and where I am a certified Holsten’s Ice Cream eating junkie; and proud of it (lol).

According to a statement released by Bloomfield Township, the award highlights the town’s forward-looking plan, developed with residents’ voices at the center.

Crafted over two years, the plan focuses on revitalizing business districts, creating safer walkable neighborhoods, preserving history, and building a sustainable future.

The Honorable Mayor Jenny Mundell called it a roadmap that protects what we love about Bloomfield while preparing us for the challenges ahead.

But awards honestly only tell part of the story. What makes this recognition feel so special are the everyday signs of growth I’ve witnessed around town, especially through programs that strengthen our young people.

This summer, I watched girls at the “Girls on Fire” camp suit up in firefighter gear, learning lessons in courage and teamwork that will stay with them long after the camp ends.

At the Junior Police Academy, students stepped into new roles of discipline and responsibility, finding confidence and connection with officers in ways that build trust for the future.

Together, these programs, along with a thoughtful Master Plan, show a Bloomfield that is growing with purpose.

Yup, the award is a reminder that when we plan wisely and invest in our people, we create not just a better township today, but a stronger community for generations to come.

Congratulations, Bloomfield Township!
