The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon in Newark’s North Ward.
Gunfire erupted around 1 p.m. inside the Stephen Crane housing community, leaving 34-year-old Raheem Colwell of Newark with gunshot wounds to the head and shoulder.
Colwell was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:35 p.m.
Authorities said the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains active and ongoing.
