Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one man injured Monday evening in Newark’s South Ward.

According to a statement from Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, the incident occurred around 4:58 p.m. at the intersection of Bergen Street and Hawthorne Avenue.
Following the shooting, the injured man was driven by a friend to the nearby 5th Precinct, located at Bergen Street and Clinton Avenue, where officers rendered assistance.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene and transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment.
Officials confirmed that the man is currently in stable condition.
No information has been released regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting, and no arrests have been reported as of now.
Newark Police continue to investigate the incident.
