Pedestrian Severely Injured in Downtown Newark Collision

A pedestrian was critically injured Thursday night following a vehicle strike in downtown Newark, prompting a swift emergency response and an ongoing investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to preliminary information obtained by RLS Media's Metro Morning Crew, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Clark Street and Mayor The Honorable Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard (formerly Broad Street). 

Multiple 911 calls reported that a person had been struck by a vehicle in the busy downtown North Ward area.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered an unidentified individual suffering from severe injuries. 

EMS personnel were immediately requested, and the victim was transported to University Hospital in critical condition. 

As of early Friday morning, the individual’s identity and exact condition have not been released.

Crime scene investigators from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office responded to assist Newark Police with the investigation. 

Details surrounding the cause of the crash, including whether the driver remained on the scene, remain unclear.

Authorities have not released any further information, and the incident is still under active investigation.
