Authorities are investigating a shooting that left one person injured in Newark’s Central Ward late Saturday night.
According to preliminary information, a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in the area of Broome Street and Mercer Street at approximately 11:27 p.m.
Responding officers arrived and located an unidentified male on Court Street suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Police canvassed the surrounding area, including the vicinity of local baseball and basketball courts, in search of additional evidence and potential victims.
No other injuries were reported.
The motive behind the shooting remains under active investigation.
