Male Found Shot in His Arm Inside Car in Newark's Central Ward

Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred early Friday morning in Newark’s Central Ward, leaving one person injured.

According to preliminary information, the incident unfolded around 2:40 a.m. when a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in the area of Quitman Street and Spruce Street. 

Newark Police officers responded and located multiple shell casings at the scene, but did not initially find any victims.

While canvassing the area, officers discovered a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm near 737 Martin Luther King Boulevard.

The victim was transported to University Hospital and is expected to recover.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been reported. The investigation is active and ongoing.
