Five people were wounded when gunfire erupted during an unauthorized block party in Jersey City early Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to a statement released Monday by city officials, officers were already on the scene around 1:50 a.m. in response to a disorderly crowd and double-parked vehicles near the gathering, which drew several hundred attendees.
While in the area, police heard multiple gunshots ring out.
One of the victims, later found to be in possession of a defaced firearm, hollow-point ammunition, and an extended magazine, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical but stable condition.
Authorities said that the individual is now facing several weapons charges.
Three additional people were located nearby suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, including injuries to the arms, legs, or superficial graze wounds.
A fifth victim arrived at a local hospital by private vehicle and was also listed in critical but stable condition.

The investigation remains active, and police have not released further details.
