A Manchester Township man has been charged with attempted murder following a brutal assault on his elderly mother, according to information released by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.Authorities say 44-year-old Joseph Cavallaro was arrested on June 27, 2025, after officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to a report of a woman in distress at the Pine Acres Manor Mobile Home Community around 12:15 p.m.

When officers arrived, they discovered a 71-year-old woman—later identified as Cavallaro’s mother—suffering from serious injuries to her face and body.

Emergency responders transported her to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she remains in critical but stable condition.

A preliminary investigation determined that Cavallaro allegedly assaulted his mother and beat her with a cane during the incident.

He was taken into custody at the scene but experienced a medical emergency and was subsequently taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment.

He is currently listed in stable condition.

Cavallaro has been charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Prosecutors said he will be lodged in the Ocean County Jail following his release from the hospital, pending a detention hearing.

The case remains under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Manchester Township Police Department.
