UPDATE: Female Seriously Injured in Reported South Ward Domestic Violence Shooting

Police in Newark are investigating a reported domestic violence-related shooting that left a 16-year-old female seriously injured in the city’s South Ward Friday evening.

According to authorities, officers responded to the 100 block of Huntington Terrace just before 6 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. 

Upon arrival, they found a female victim suffering from severe gunshot wounds. Initial reports from officials that the shooting had resulted in a fatality were later confirmed to be incorrect by authorities.

Emergency medical personnel rushed the woman to University Hospital, where she underwent surgery. 

She remains in serious condition.

The suspect fled the scene, and as of Friday night, no arrests have been announced. Police have not released additional details regarding the identity of the suspect or the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
