Newark authorities are investigating an early morning drive-by shooting that occurred Thursday in the city’s Central Ward.

According to police, a ShotSpotter device alerted officers to gunfire in the area of 14th Avenue, near the New Community housing development and a nearby charter school, around 1 a.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they secured the area and located several shell casings.
A search of the neighborhood revealed no victims, and no injuries have been reported.
Investigators believe the shots were fired from a vehicle, targeting unknown individuals or locations. No arrests have been made, and the motive remains unclear.
The incident remains under active investigation.
