Suspect Arrested After Broad-Daylight Shooting Near Newark High School

Newark authorities arrested a suspect Saturday afternoon following a shooting near a South Ward high school that left one person injured.

According to preliminary information released by Newark Police, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3:30 p.m. in the area of 150 Johnson Avenue, near Shabazz High School. 

 

Upon arrival, police discovered an unidentified individual suffering from a gunshot wound. Police believe the shooting victim shot himself. 

 

He was transported to University Hospital and said to be in stable condition.

 

Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
