UPDATE: Search Continues for Gunman Responsible for Tuesday Night Newark Shooting

Newark authorities are actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Tuesday night in the city’s South Ward.

According to officials, a ShotSpotter alert was activated shortly before 11 p.m. in the area of 141 Goodwin Avenue, prompting a swift response from police units. 

Upon arrival, officers discovered shell casings at the scene, indicating that gunfire had occurred. 

A thorough search of the surrounding neighborhood did not turn up any victims.

Police said the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and remains at large. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

This shooting is part of a recent uptick in gun violence across Newark. 

Since the weekend, multiple shootings have been reported, with some resulting in injuries. Authorities have not yet confirmed arrests in several of those cases.

The investigation into the Goodwin Avenue shooting remains ongoing as detectives work to identify a motive and locate the individual responsible.
