Police Investigate South Ward Shooting After ShotSpotter Alert in Newark

Newark authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred in the city’s South Ward on Wednesday night.

According to a statement released by police, the department’s shooting response team was deployed around 9:50 p.m. after a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire near 139 Clinton Avenue.

Multiple police units responded swiftly to the area, where they discovered shell casings on the ground, confirming that a shooting had taken place.

During a search of the neighborhood, officers did not locate any victims. 

Detectives canvassed the scene for evidence and witnesses, but the individual responsible had already fled. At this time, no arrests have been made.

The motive behind the gunfire remains unknown, and the incident is part of an active and ongoing investigation.
