Authorities identified 61-year-old Robert Gorrie, whose last known address is in Wayne, as the prime suspect in a series of break-ins that occurred over several months earlier this year.

During the incidents, storefront glass doors were shattered and cash was stolen from inside the targeted businesses.

After developing leads, Wayne detectives obtained arrest warrants for Gorrie and launched an extensive effort to locate him.

Despite multiple attempts by patrol officers and detectives, officials said Gorrie managed to elude capture, prompting police to issue a public alert requesting assistance in locating him.

As weeks passed with no success, investigators suspected Gorrie had fled the area and broadened their search.

Their efforts eventually led to Hudson County, where Wayne detectives collaborated with officers from the Jersey City Police Department.

After three days of intensified searching, detectives found Gorrie sleeping in an abandoned bus along railroad tracks near the Jersey City and Bayonne border.

He was apprehended without incident by Wayne Police Detective Lieutenant Vincent Ricciardelli and Detective Tomasz Cydzik.

Gorrie has been charged with multiple counts of burglary and theft and was transported to the Passaic County Jail Intake Hub, where he awaits a detention hearing.

Wayne police credited both community tips and interagency cooperation for the successful arrest.
