Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting in Newark’s West Ward

Newark Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning in the city’s Fairmount section of the West Ward.

According to preliminary reports, a ShotSpotter device activated around 2:20 a.m., alerting officers to gunfire near 158 South 11th Street. 

When police arrived at the scene, they found evidence of a shooting and requested assistance from Newark’s Shooting Response Team and Crime Scene Unit to process the area.

As of now, authorities have not confirmed any victims connected to the incident. 

A request for additional information has been submitted to Newark Police to determine whether any gunshot victims may have later surfaced at local hospitals.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
