A man was hospitalized Wednesday evening after being hit by a bus in Newark’s North Ward, according to a statement released by the Newark Police Department.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on May 21, when officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Broadway following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, police found the injured man at the scene and called emergency medical personnel.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to University Hospital for evaluation after complaining of pain.
Officials have not disclosed the extent of his injuries, but no additional injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, police are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the collision.
At this time, it is unclear what caused the man to be in the roadway or whether any citations have been issued.
