Police are investigating a broad daylight shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon in Newark’s South Ward.

According to preliminary information, a ShotSpotter alert was triggered around 3:15 p.m. near 91 Tillinghast Street.
Responding officers arrived quickly and discovered shell casings at the scene.
The area was immediately taped off as police canvassed the neighborhood for evidence and possible witnesses.
No injuries were reported, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
Authorities said the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and is currently at large.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Newark Police.
