Fourth Shooting in Overnight Spree Sends Man to Hospital in Newark’s South Ward

Authorities in Essex County are actively investigating a string of shootings that erupted in Newark overnight, with the latest incident sending a man to the hospital late Saturday in the city's South Ward.

According to preliminary information, police were dispatched to the area of 411 Chancellor Avenue after a ShotSpotter alert notified officers of gunfire in the neighborhood just before 9:30 p.m. 

Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.

While officials have not released the extent of his injuries, sources close to the investigation said the victim was in serious condition. 

He was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment.

This shooting marks the fourth reported gunfire incident across the city in less than 24 hours.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the cases are connected, but all remain under active investigation. No arrests have been made as of Sunday.

Police are urging anyone with information about any of the incidents to come forward.
