Authorities in Newark are investigating a Saturday night shooting that occurred near a city park in the Central Ward, marking the third gunfire incident reported in the city overnight.

Initial reports indicated that the department received a ShotSpotter alert around 8 p.m. in the vicinity of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Muhammad Ali Avenue—just a block away from Jesse Allen Park and Nat Turner Park.

Central Ward patrol units responded to the scene and requested additional support from the Newark Shooting Response Team.

Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shell casings but found no victims in the area.

A thorough canvas of the neighborhood was conducted, but no injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made.

The investigation remains active as authorities work to identify a suspect and determine a motive behind the gunfire.
