Authorities in Newark are investigating an overnight shooting in the city’s South Ward that resulted in property damage but no reported injuries.
According to officials, the Newark Shooting Response Team responded to reports of gunfire around 10:20 p.m. in the area of 87 Girard Place.

When officers arrived, they secured the scene and discovered two vehicles that bullets had struck.
Upon inspection, the cars were found to be unoccupied.
A search of the surrounding neighborhood did not reveal any victims. The suspect had already fled the area by the time police arrived and remains at large.
This shooting was the second of at least three reported gunfire incidents in Newark overnight.
The motive for the South Ward incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released any additional details at this time.
