Authorities in Paterson are investigating an early morning shootout involving two vehicles that exchanged gunfire in a residential area on Saturday.
According to a preliminary investigation, the incident happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. when officers were dispatched to the vicinity of James Street and Manchester Avenue following reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, police discovered multiple shell casings at the scene, indicating that firearms of different calibers had been discharged. 
Investigators believe that the gunfire was exchanged between individuals traveling in a Honda and suspects in a silver or light-colored Toyota RAV4.
Both vehicles reportedly fled the area before police arrived.
No injuries were reported at the scene, and it remains unclear how many suspects were involved in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
