Residents Seek Cover After Gunman Fires Multiple Rounds in Newark's South Ward

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting incident that sent residents scrambling for safety in the city’s South Ward late Monday night.

Shortly before 11 p.m., a ShotSpotter device detected multiple rounds of gunfire near 991 Frelinghuysen Avenue, close to the Elizabeth border. 

Officers quickly responded and located several shell casings at the scene, confirming that a shooting had occurred.

After canvassing the area, police reported that no injuries were found, and no victims came forward. 

According to witnesses, the gunfire sent residents running for cover, with several expressing relief that the bullets struck no one.
