Jersey City Man Gets 13 Years for the Killing of an Irvington Man

A 22-year-old Jersey man was sentenced today to 13 years in prison for the killing of an Irvington man in 2013. 

Phillips on Feb. 20, 2015 , pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter after being charged with the shooting that killed 28-year-old Jamiel Ribinson in the area of Bergen and Clinton avenues on June 30, 2013.

According to reports, Phillips shot Robinson a total of five times - once in the jaw, three times in the upper back, and once in the back right thigh. Robinson was transported to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health where he was pronounced dead. 

Phillips was arrested two blocks from the crime scene.

Phillips was sentenced to 13 consecutive years of prison time, 85 percent of which he must serve before becoming parole eligible, on all the charges.
