Police have identified the two men arrested in Hillside after a late night shooting on Tuesday.
Jamal M. Dennard, Jr., 19, of Somerset (originally of Hillside) and Todd Rayford, 18, of Roselle have been charged with possession of the same firearm and possessing (using) firearm for unlawful purposes.
An investigation revealed that the two men drove from Roselle to Hillside and happened to find the intended victim - an 18-year-old Hillside man, with whom Rayford has had an ongoing dispute which may include additional factors than just a female. Upon finding him the intended target in the area of Liberty Avenue and Crann Street, two shots were fired.
The circumstances surrounding the actual discharge of the firearm are still under investigation.
Both men were found immediately after the incident by an off-duty police officer who ordered the men to the ground and disarmed the subject in possession of the weapon, Rayford. Upon arrival of on-duty officers both men were arrested.
Dennard and Rayford are being held at the Union County Jail on $50,000 bail each.
