A family member has identified the man killed early this morning as the 35-year-old son of the city's fire chief.
Darcell Rivers who lived in Rhode Island was shot during an apparent robbery, said the family.
Shortly before getting shot Rivers was allegedly on the phone with his girlfriend when he told her, 'I'm being robbed,' shortly before the call dropped.
Police responded to Fulton Avenue near Van Cleef Street at approximately 3:45 a.m. for a report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, police found a man with a gunshot to the head and reportedly recovered a single shell casing at the scene.
Rivers was transported to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health where he succumbed to his injury.
According to family, Rivers was here visiting his four children and his mother.
