Newark Fatal Shooting Victim Identified as 15-Year-Old Boy

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that the victim of last night’s fatal shooting in Newark has been identified as Al-Shakeen Woodson, 15, of Newark.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. in the area of 19th Avenue and South 16th Street.  The victim was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:08 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit. 

Three other adult males suffered non-life threatening injuries and were treated at area hospitals, according to Fennelly.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is  ongoing and active at this time, according to Fennelly.
