Authorities in Bergen County announced the arrest of John Laiosa, 77, of Lodi, NJ.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella reported that the arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Captain Michael Antista.
According to officials, on Saturday, August 26, at approximately 8:47 p.m., Hackensack Police received a 911 call reporting a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at the intersection of Essex Street and Lehigh Street in Hackensack.
Authorities say the pedestrian, a 65-year-old Hackensack resident, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of serious bodily injuries.
An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and Hackensack Police revealed that a 2019 Ford Mustang operated by John Laiosa struck the victim as she crossed Essex Street and that the driver fled the area prior to police arrival, officials said.
As a result of the investigation, John Laiosa was charged with third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, resulting in serious bodily injury.
Officials say Laiosa was also issued motor vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and failure to report a motor vehicle accident.
According to officials, Laiosa was released on his own recognizance pending his first appearance in Hackensack Central Judicial Processing Court.
